Visit to Coteaux

On Sunday we went about 1 1/2 hours west to Coteaux, one of the little towns hit very hard by the hurricane. The whole trip was really devastating as we saw most of the trees down and many houses without roof or completely destroyed. The church crumbled and buried 3 people, one more is still very ill. The members started cleaning up and are hoping that they can worship in it with some tarps. They are meeting in a home in several rooms right now. We are planning to help with reconstruction because the posts need to be placed anew before the roof can be put on. Hopefully the leaders will see that too. Our intern is very busy starting nurseries all over. Many people are interested in growing gardens now since there is hardly anything in the market to buy. Others are hoping and waiting for help from the outside which is slow in coming and the distribution is very difficult.

On the way back we visited one of our staff whose make-shift hut blew away. He has 10 kids and had no real house before the storm. The foundation for the first room was layed already and now they are working on digging for the post for a second room. We are helping him to build his house so that the kids have a place to call home again. School materials will be bought anew and then they can go back to school.

We continue to distribute tin and tarps along with rice and seeds. Some roofs have been almost finished already and the owners have hope again. When we look around us we want to get discouraged sometimes but the Lord gives us His strength to move on.

Please, pray for us so that we have wisdom to make the right decisions. We wish you a blessed weekend.
