Here are some activites from SEED and our students’ activities.
1- Graduation in BS Agriculture: USITA, our university, opened its doors in October 2015. Due to many delays, such as Covid, national and international unrest, and student rebellion, we were finally able to accompany several students for the first time as they defended their theses and received their diplomas. We really celebrated, and it motivated the other students to work harder. So grateful that the long dry spell is finally behind us.
2- Student Graduation Celebration 2025: At the end of December, we had our big year-end party; it started with a church service, followed by games, jokes, and of course, a big meal on the school grounds.
3- Visit to one of our satellite farms: The first-semester students were very interested in visiting Madame Combe. It's important for the students to see what a farm like this can look like in reality and to realize that it's possible for them to put this into practice. One of our alumni is currently doing just that.
4- Student Gardens 2026: This year we have almost 60 first-semester students again. We haven't had that many for several years. It's a big challenge, but also wonderful when we can see the fruit of their labor.
5. Raising the North Wall on Campus: Since the campus walls had been too low for several years, we started raising the north wall. The neighbors didn't hesitate to simply climb over it, built a grave almost right up against the wall, and so it became increasingly unsafe. This project was completed in December.
Projects:
Classrooms for the first semesters. Since our current rooms can only accommodate 50 chairs, we need at least one larger room to house 70 to 80 students. We plan to begin this now and build on top of our existing cafeteria. It's designed to withstand earthquakes.
Auditorium: This is our long-term project. The auditorium collapsed during the earthquake. We've held our first planning meeting and are now waiting for the plans and a cost estimate. We'll let you know as soon as we have more details.
Thank you for your prayers and your encouragement, including for me. I'm feeling relatively well and am making a little progress daily. I hope to fly back to Haiti at the end of the month.
